Miles Shepard Tomlinson was born about 1841 in Indiana. He was the son of Henry Tomlinson and Juliann Adaline Shepard. According the 1880 Martin Co. Indiana census records for Miles and Caroline, Henry was born in Maryland. Juliann was born in Indiana on 2 Oct 1920, the daughter of Miles Shepard and Elizabeth Geer.
Miles Tomlinson was apparently first married to a Hoskins. The maiden name of Hoskins came from some written notes of Mary Elizabeth (Tomlinson) Acre’s. Those notes did not list her first name. Miles Tomlinson married a Caroline Cook on 01 Nov 1874 in Martin Co., Indiana. I know from census records that Cook was her married name since the 1880 census lists stepchildren named Cook in the Miles Tomlinson household. Caroline’s maiden name may have been Fish. There is a Harriet Fish listed as Miles’ mother-in-law in the 1880 Martin Co., Indiana census. She is also living with Caroline in the 1900 Martin Co. census and listed as Caroline’s mother.
Miles died in the Spanish-American War in 1898.

2. Mary Elizabeth Tomlinson, born 25 Mar 1868 in Martin Co., Indiana and died 21 Jul 1930 in Enid, Garfield, Oklahoma. She is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana. She married Robert Hamilton Acre on 25 Dec 1889 in Shoals, Martin Co., Indiana.3. Julia Tomlinson, born 1872 in Indiana.
4. Daisy V. Tomlinson, born about 1877 in Indiana. She married Wilbur Lutes 07 Mar 1897 in Martin Co., Indiana.
5. Henry Miles Tomlinson born 1881 in Indiana. Henry married Sarah Evaline Tredway 03 May 1903 in Martin Co., Indiana. She was the daughter of Alfred Tredway and Dorothy Jane _____ and was born about 1881 in Indiana.
Dora, Mary Elizabeth and Julia were apparently daughters by Miles’ first wife. Henry and Daisy were apparently daughters by Caroline. There may have also been other children. The Martin Co., Indiana also has the following Tomlinson marriages:
